Itinerary of 4 Days Shared Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

Day 1: From Marrakech to Dades Gorges through Ait Ben Haddou

We will meet in the square of Jemaa El Fnna for the departure. We begin our 4 days shared desert tour from Marrakech by crossing the High Atlas Mountains  and have the first stop in Tizi N’Ticheka, a high altitude of 2260 meters for breathing the fresh air of the Atlas mountains.

We will drive crossing the old Berber villages until we get to the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit this fortified village that is located in the biggest valley in Morocco, the Ounila valley. We will have about 1 hour to enjoy this Kasbah  where many international films and series were shot, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, Game of thrones and many others.

Lunch will be in this place .  The next stop will be a cooperative of roses in the city of roses, that is Kalaat Mgouna. One of the local will explain to you the whole process of making many roses products by the local women. The last stop will be  for dinner and overnight inside the valley of Dades to enjoy the views of the valley from the terrace of your hotel.

Day 2: From Dades Gorges to Golden Desert

On the second day of our Shared desert tour from Marrakech, we consume breakfast before traveling to the desert for the day. Today’s adventure takes us to the desert for a Morocco camel ride. where we learn about various customs and other tribes. First of all we will drive few miles to visit Todra Gorges, a high canyon of 400 meters high and 10 meters wide. You will have a walk inside these stunning cliffs.

We continue driving to Tinjdad village, where you will have the chance to stop by one of the traditional cooperative of Berber clothes. You will have the chance to wear and try the Saharan clothes for free.  After lunch, we will drive passing by Erfoud town is well-known for its fossils and for having a market with palm and fruit trees. And we get to Merzouga.

We replace the car by camels as your transportation to cross the dunes of Erg Chebbi desert towards the camp. On your way you will enjoy the unbelievable sunset. Once you get to the camp you will be welcomed by a mint tea and get into your Berber tent. After dinner, you will gather around the fire with the locals to enjoy their Drums music. They even show you how to play this typical music. Don not miss the enjoy this starry night. 

Day 3: Exploring the Sahara desert  by 4×4

After enjoying the magnificent sunrise beside your camp and the breakfast. We will start our desert tour by 4×4 to explore the Sahara area. First we cross the dunes and head to a building of old cars. Next we drive to visit the Berber Nomads who live in tents. We will have a cup of tea with them, and they will explain to us about their daily life. After this we drive to abandoned village that is called Mifis. Beside this village there is a mine where they get  the eyeliner. Also it is the nearest point to the borders between Morocco and Algeria.

Next we travel to Khamlia to learn about Gnawa music that is played by the inhabitants of this village. Who were originally immigrants from Mali and Sudan. But later they became the locals of this village. After this tour you will go back to your hotel for free afternoon. That you can use to try the ATV quads or buggy activity, or just relax in your hotel. Overnight and dinner at your Riad or hotel.

Day 4: From Merzouga directly to Marrakech

You get up early to see the spectacular desert sunrise, which is one of the things you should not miss in this area. After breakfast, we will drive towards Marrakech. On the last day, we will have a few stops along the way. Including lunch, Draa Valley the biggest one in Morocco, and other quick stops for bathroom and pictures. Before we reach Marrakech we will cross again the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi N’Ticheka. We finally reach Marrakech and drop you off in the Jemaa Fena square. End of 4 days shared desert tour from Marrakech.
