Escape to the golden dunes of Merzouga on this unforgettable journey through Morocco’s most breathtaking landscapes. This tour takes you from the bustling streets of Marrakech to the serene Sahara, passing ancient kasbahs, dramatic gorges, and sweeping desert vistas. Ride camels over Erg Chebbi’s dunes, sleep under the stars in a luxury desert camp, and explore Morocco’s cinematic heartland in Ouarzazate.
We depart Marrakech early, winding through the High Atlas Mountains via the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m). Our first stop is the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and filming location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones and others. After exploring its ancient clay streets, we continue to Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Sahara,” where you can visit the Atlas Film Studios (optional).
The journey then takes us through the Valley of Roses, known for its fragrant rosewater production, before arriving in the Dades Valley, where we spend the night in a cozy Riad with dinner.
After a traditional breakfast, we drive to the stunning Todgha Gorge, where 300m-high cliffs tower above a winding river. Perfect for a short walk to strech the legs. Our journey toward the Sahara continues by passing through Erfoud, a place where they make fossils and minerals.
By afternoon, we reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, you’ll mount a camel and trek into the golden sands. Where you will have the chance to enjoy the sunset over the desert. At night, we stay in a luxury desert camp, enjoying traditional Berber music, a delicious dinner, and endless stars.
Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the dunes, with optional sandboarding for adventure seekers. After breakfast, we return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and begin our drive back to Marrakech.
We pass through Rissani, a historic trading town, and the lush Draa Valley, dotted with palm groves and ancient kasbahs. A final stop in Nkob offers a glimpse of traditional Berber life before we cross the High Atlas Mountains and return to Marrakech by evening.
